Sock Yarns
Wooden Yarn Swift
Birch wooden umbrella style yarn swift or skein winder.
Attaches to a table edge with a chunky clamp-style screw-on attachment that will not damage your table.
These are excellent quality (I’ve had mine for >30 yrs and I use it A LOT!) and, from what I can find on the UK market currently, OUTSTANDING value. Competing products range from £54 to £88 for very similar products. I order them in small batches so may run out of stock from time to time. If I do, new ones will be on their way, but if you want it NOW, then order whenever you see them in stock to avoid having to practice your patience…
Undyed Sock Wool (with Bamboo)
This is a blend of 80% Merino, 20% Bamboo. It is slightly thicker than the Blue Faced Leicester Sock yarn and can therefore be knitted on slightly bigger needles. Bamboo is known for its antibacterial properties, which is one of the reasons why it is so popular in sock yarn blends. Dyes beautifully.
100 gr. = 400 m.
Knit with 2.5 or 2.75 mm needles.
Undyed Sock Wool (with Tencel)
A lovely 50/50% Merino/Tencel blend, this sock wool has a lovely lustre and silky feel. The tencel has a distinct effect on the dyeing results, with softer, more muted colours. Very well suited for other projects, not just socks, this yarn gives lots of stitch definition and a lovely drape. Sold as a 100 gr. hank
Knit with 2.5 or 2.75 mm needles
Undyed Organic Cotton Sock Yarn
This gorgeous yarn is made up of 55% organic Peruvian cotton and 45% tencel. It has a very slight sheen to it which gives it wonderful stitch definition.NOTE: unlike animal fibres (like wool), plant fibres (like this cotton/tencel blend) can not be dyed using Acid dyes. If you want to dye this yarn, use Procion dyes or Direct dyes. We will be introducing these in the course of this year.
Undyed Sock Wool (BFL)
100% Blue Faced Leicester – 100 gr. hank Superwash – this means it does not shrink, or felt. AND you can wash it safely in the washing machine!
Extremely soft to the touch yet hard-wearing. This yarn works particularly well with Helen Deighan's Dyes but can also be used without dyeing.
Sold in hanks of 100 grams.
400 m. per hank, which is plenty for a pair of socks.
Knit with 2.25 or 2.5 mm needles.
