Knitting Smocks

buythebook

It started with a need to hold my ball of yarn while I knit standing up.
That led to this Linen Smock which quickly grew into my standard
silhouette at shows.
It's clear that I'm not the only one believing that there is a screaming
need for cool, roomy, easy care garments to wear while we do our
crafty stuff.

The Knitting Smock is the first installment of a small (yet perfectly formed!)
range of Tales: over-pieces that make you look funky, keep you clean and
can be thrown over pretty much any outfit. Whether you're spinning,
weaving, dyeing, knitting, baking a cake, or, on one occasion in my case,
attending a wedding, they can be dressed up or down.

Available in 4 sizes:              Size 0: bust up to 90 cm (36 in)
Size 1: bust up to 105 cm (42 in)
Size 2: bust up to 122 cm (48 in)
Size 3: bust up to 137 cm (54 in)

Length from shoulder (size 2): 90 cm (36 in) front and back, dipping
to 115 cm (45 in) at the sides – slightly shorter in the smaller sizes.

Key features:

  • made from top quality Irish and Italian linens
  • pre-washed and pre-shrunk, so they can be thrown
in the washing machine and dryer, getting only better
    over time
  • nice big pocket on the right hip
  • in neutral colours making them versatile and
    chameleon-like in appearance
  • made for a range of different shapes and sizes
  • their bell-shape creates a very flattering, flow-y
    silhouette.

In the picture: Size 0 in Charcoal Pinstripe on a 5'5" body.

These 2 pictures illustrate the effect of the shape
of the Smocks when wearing a larger size.

On the left a Size 1 (in Silver Grey)

On the right a Size 2 (in Blue Back Stripe)

The Size 2 is longer and much roomier around the
bust, but the flattering shape of the Smocks does
not emphasise this at all.
Your choice of size largely depends on the way
you plan to wear it. If you prefer to wear it
with more fitted tops (like the one in the pictures),
choose the size most closely to your bust
measurement. If you want to be able to throw it on
even over a bulky jumper, choose one size bigger.

Cerise Pink Linen Knitting Smock .

The picture does not do this beautiful shade of linen justice.
The group shot of fabrics at the top of the page gives a more accurate impression.

Indigo Blue Stripe Linen Knitting Smock

The most versatile of blues, goes with pretty much everything and the stripes give is a retro look and feel. As with all my linen, the stripes are woven into the fabric and the fabric has been boiled before the smocks were made so the shape and size won’t change.
The most popular linen at the Springs shows, I just managed to get some more of it, so I will have some with me at KnitNation mid-July and posted here straight after the show.

Wide Pinstripe Linen Knitting Smock .

This fabric has a slight brownish hue, although in most light it does come up as a charcoal. The pinstripes are cream and pale grey/blue.
My favourite linen!
