Straight from the sun-baked soils of Texas comes Buffalo Gold, a selection of very special yarns designed around the main fibre, which is bison down.
The American bison (Bison bison), also commonly known as the American buffalo, is a North American species of bison that once roamed the grasslands of North America in massive herds. Due to commercial hunting and slaughter in the 19th century, the bison nearly went extinct. Concerted efforts from dedicated ranchers and environmentalists resulted in a slow but steady comeback. The wonderful down is now available for spinning. The down gets thoroughly de-haired en processed to create Buffalo Gold, a precious fibre that is quite unique on the fibre market.
With no regular supply of Buffalo gold into the UK, I've wanted to add it to the shop since last Autumn. And here it finally is, in two guises: Lux, a buttery lace weight blend of Bison down, Cashmere, Silk and Tencel and Earth, a hard-wearing fingering weight of pure Bison Down with a touch of Nylon… I hope you love it as much as I do. Please let me know what you think!

Buffalo Gold Lux
Buffalo Gold Lux Lace A
Soft, lustrous and with a lovely drape, this 2-ply, 23 WPI yarn is light as a feather yet wonderfully warm. One hank is 40 grams, 330 yards (300 m).
Consists of 45% American Bison Down, 20% Cashmere, 20% Silk and 15% Tencel.
Ideal for shawls, this yarn is begging to be transformed into an heirloom to be passed on for generations to come!
As with all hand-dyed yarns, please ensure you purchase enough yarn for your project, as subsequent dye batches may vary in colour. I will ensure you receive your entire order from the same dye batch.
I will only ever have limited amounts of these yarns in stock, so if you see something you like, grab it before it’s gone…
Instructions for care: “Be good to your Buffalo – hand wash & lay flat to dry”
Recommended needle size dependent on your project.
