.·:*¨¨*:·.SOCK LACE.·:*¨¨*:·. is a phrase I coined when I introduced the first SOLILOQUY yarn in 2011.
SOLILOQUY MerinoSilk is a gorgeous blend of fine Superwash Merino (80%) and lustrous Silk (20%).
The resulting yarn is smooth, supple, lovely to knit with and suitable for fine socks, shawls and vintage style knitting projects.
In the Autumn of 2012 the second .·:*¨¨*:·.SOCK LACE.·:*¨¨*:·. was launched.
SOLILOQUY AlpacaBoo is an 80/20% blend again, this time of Baby Alpaca and Bamboo.
AlpacaBoo has superb drape and the bamboo gives the shades a lovely, powdery hue.
It is lovely to knit by itself but also very well suited to be knit using 2 or 3 strands.
Both yarns are available in a wide range of colours, guest-dyed by an illustrious band of Indie dyers like Koigu, The Natural Dye Studio, Artisan Yarns and Sparkleduck.

The story behind Soliloquy:
4-ply sock yarns are bulky…
There are a couple of things that bug me about 4-ply sock yarns:
1. I love knitting with them, but do not like wearing 4-ply socks; to me, they’re too bulky.
2. I hate spending £15 – £20 on a hank of STUNNING sock yarn, only to finish knitting a pair of socks within a week.
3. I love knitting lace but don’t like the extra bulk that lace stitches produce as a result of knitting stitches together (especially when knitting lace socks!).
Lace weight yarns are too thin for socks…
When looking for thinner yarns, lace weights are the obvious ones to consider. But at 800 metres per 100 grams, I’d have to knit on 1.2 – 1.5 mm needles to produce a stocking stitch fabric that is sturdy enough. It’s an option, but together with the fact that most lace weight yarns aren’t durable enough, a lace weight just doesn’t quite fit the bill either.
“Yarn that is suitable to knit vintage patterns with…”
I was getting lots of requests for a 3-ply yarn that is suitable for knitting vintage patterns.
So the idea of a Sock Lace was born. Finer than Sock yarn, more substantial than a Lace yarn and perfect for 3-ply vintage patterns.
