About

Tall Yarns 'n Tales is a place to find inspiration, offering knitting yarn, patterns, needles, dye and a growing selection of books.
I strive for high quality in everything I offer and with a strong emphasis on natural fibres and handmade products. The reason my products are also affordable is simple: everyone involved with getting them to you is passionate about yarn and more interested to spread the yarn than to grow rich in the process. I deal mainly with small companies and aim to develop valued, long-lasting trading relationships with both my suppliers as well as my customers. If you'd like to keep abreast of my developments, please send me an email and I will add you to my newsletter circulation.

WHO AM I?
A life-long knitting addict who jumped out of the fast lane (marketing director turned business consultant) to have kids and then found myself unwilling to rejoin the fast lane. Going along with a friend to help on her stand at a knitting show was like coming home. We started brainstorming, the idea of a book was born, I trialled my product idea (dyeing and knitting kits) and Tall Yarns 'n Tales was born.

HISTORY
2008
It started with a small pilot range that was launched at the Knitting and Stitching Shows in October and November.
2009
In the Spring, this launch was backed up with the launch of a second collection of dyes and a growing selection of un-dyed yarns.
In Summer, a selection of Knit-Pro Interchangeable Circular Needles were added to the product offer.
Autumn saw the publication of Knit One Dye One, a book that describes easy and fast dyeing recipes to create your own heirloom yarns, as well as giving you a range of cool knitting patterns. The patterns cater for a range of knitting abilities. All are aimed at creating timeless pieces; if you make the effort of dyeing your own personal yarn, it's worth knitting something with it that you will want to wear and/or keep for a long time!
In November I introduced the first of my Tales, a Knittting Smock. It is step one of what will gradually grow into a capsule collection of clothes for Spinners, Weavers, Dyers, Knitters and those to whom they appeal. The Knitting Smocks are offered in 4 sizes, all in small, limited edition ranges of exclusive, high quality Irish and Italian linen.
The Knit-Pro range was extended with the introduction of the Spectra Acrylic needles.
2010
Spring: the range of Knit-Pro needles was extended to include fixed circular needles.
Summer: the range of available patterns was extended and Nova metal needles were added to the Knit-Pro range.
Autumn: a selection of organically farmed Merino as well as some UK Alpaca yarns were added to the range of un-dyed yarns and the range of knitting accessories was extended.
Winter: Hiya Hiya 9" circular needles were introduced (both with bamboo and metal tips) and Tall Yarns Soliloquy Sock Lace was introduced with specific pattern support.
2011
Spring: Tales Spinning Pinnies were launched, selling out as fast as they're made. Soliloquy Sock Lace now available in luscious shades, dyed by guest-dyers like Koigu, The Natural Dye Studio and DodoKnitz. The HiyaHiya range is expanded with their superfine DPN's and circular needles (as small as 0.7 mm).
Summer: Buffalo Gold Lux and Earth are introduced – first ever customer caught crying on the stand at the relief of finding a UK supplier for her beloved bison yarns.
Autumn: the first linen kitting bags were introduced and loved as much as the Smocks and Pinnies still are. The number of customers with more than one of these is growing steadily, so they're now sold with a warning: beware….addictive garment!
Winter: with the pattern range for Soliloquy slowly expanding, the word is spreading and vintage pattern knitters discover the perfect fit that Soliloquy makes as a vintage pattern 3-ply. Ongoing attempts to add Darn Pretty hand-turned wooden interchangeable circular needles to the range (order placed in the Summer!).
2012
Spring: Tall Yarns Trinity Twist is introduced – another niche yarn, a very hard-wearing sport-weight superwash, perfect for walking socks and American sport-weight patterns. Soliloquy patterns now also available on Ravelry and Soliloquy Ravelry group started. Still no sign of the Darn Pretty's…
